MUCH NEWS - Please read!

Hi Everybody

Several things are happening in the near future that could impact your use of the field:

1.  The UW Design Build Fly team is holding a year-end pizza party with a design-build contest from 9-3 this Sunday, June 4.   Four planes will each fly two missions for their little contest, and they will fly their highly successful international competition plane a few times.  This will add a little bit to our usually busy Sunday.

2.  On the morning of Wednesday June 7, the RC PARKING LOT WILL BE CLOSED for grading and routine maintenance.

To see when they actually finish I suggest you monitor the parking lot using our NEW web cams with wider view and better resolution (Thanks, Chris and Chris!).  Usually it takes the grading crew less time than the whole morning.

3.  On Saturday June 10 we are holding an OPEN HOUSE, with airshows by 3D experts, BBQ, etc.  The field will be open for you too, so bring out your best stuff to show off!

4.  Speaking of 3D and AEROBATICS, do you want to learn some?  "3D" Ken will be teaching some aerobatic and 3D basics at the field.  He's a great teacher, so look forward to this.   Dates coming soon.

5.  LOST PLANES:  Several have gone down in recent weeks.  Recovery can be arduous because the grass is really tall.  Several members have drones that can help locate your plane.  Contact the club if you need drone location services.  When you go look, it’s best to head out morning or evening when the temperatures are cooler.  Take your cell phone and someone with you, or let others know you've gone out there -- like you've gone for a hike in the mountains!

6.  You've heard me say before that our many rules fall under only 5 simple categories:

  • Safe Pilots

  • Safe Planes

  • Protect People

  • Membership, and...

  • Courtesy

Among other things, COURTESY for RC pilots means generally following the direction of the traffic pattern and communicating with other pilots about your intentions and which part of the airspace you want to use.  Doing so always makes it more fun to fly.  If another pilot is zooming around randomly, it's hard to know what to expect.  Like me, I'm sure it makes you a bit nervous and takes away some of the fun.  Plus, every time we communicate we get to know each other a little bit better -- so why not?

7.  Lastly, the MOWING SCHEDULE is posted on our website home page.  The dedicated mowing volunteers try to stick to it, but it is impossible to meet the schedule all the time due to weather or other things.  Our volunteer mowers have priority at the field, whether it is happening on schedule or not.  Sometimes you might have to wait a while.  This is obviously one of the things we have to endure to have such a nice field.

Now, come out and enjoy this spectacular weather!

On behalf of myself and the Board,

"See you at the field", and Happy Landings!
